Well after the opening Blog that I wrote last week I figured I would keep you up to date with some things that happened during the week and over the weekend. Since Red Bud I have been dealing with a bum shoulder after I dislocated it twice in 24 hours!! Last week at Budds Creek I landed on it again and possibly damaged some nerves and muscles in the first Moto. During the week I went to my Doc and decided that I would try some acupuncture on it to see if that would help, low and behold it really did work and I was able to even ride during the week which I had not been able to do since the week leading up to Red Bud. It was nice to get some more seat time in before heading out to Unadilla and a little more reassurance knowing that my shoulder would be good for the weekend. After we had heard that they made some big changes to the track we got out for our Saturday practices and I must say it was quite a bit better than the previous years. They had a few new sections and they had screened some of the dirt to get most of the big rocks out which was pretty good. Sunday started off a little muddy but by the first Moto’s the track ended up being in great shape. First Moto I rounded lap 1 around 15th or so and put my head down and started to push toward the front. I passed a group of 4 or 5 and then found myself in 7th by the end of the Moto. Good finish for me after the last few weeks of crashes and injuries. Just as the Lites guys got out on the track for Moto2 we had a big storm move in with some lightning and thunder that was directly over us, they ended up Red Flagging there Moto after just 9 minutes in. Finally the Lightning stopped and they got them back out on the track and finished the race. Then we had another storm cell move over us again before we lined up so we ran for cover and waiting for it to get a little better, well that never really came and off we went with it pouring down. Unadilla is already slick in spots without rain let alone pouring down. I passed a few guys and made my way back to 7th by the end of the Moto, so after feeling like Bambi on Ice I was pretty stoked to have finished as well as I did especially coming from So Cal where we hide when its raining out!! Now I’m on a flight back home to Cali and looking forward to getting back to my program with being able to ride again during the week and not holding the couch down and bugging the Wife to death. Now this weekend we have Washougal then a few much needed weeks off so until next time keep it rubber side down!!

Sean,
Great job. I think that you deserve all the respect in the world. Like most people, I don’t pretend to understand all of the nuances involved in the busines side of the sport, but I appreciate a rider like yourself showing up with so much character. Thanks

Hello Sean - way to go on your ride at Unadilla! sounds like it was pretty wide with the weather and all the tough competition. I’ve always wanted to ride at Unadilla since I started racing back in 1975. I rode in the 1980 500 national at Washougal and just wanted to say good luck this weekend and also to be careful! I rode there last weekend (July 12-13) in a two-day oldtimer national and the track got real tricky late in the day. It was slippery hard pack underneath a thin layer of loam/sawdust and they would water it during the race - talk about an ice rink! Also, big pot holes formed late in the day that were hidden and in the shade. I just turned 50 so I played it safe and ended up 8th overall in the 50 Master class after five motos with no problems. I used a strategy of consistent breathing, complete focus on the track and good technique. Good luck this weekend and keep the rubber side down, take care, Dale Bohm

Great to see you doing well! To bad about your shoulder, i bet without that injury you would be peaking in on the top 5. Thank goodness for needles i guess. Hope Yamaha keeps you on for the rest of the outdoors, i think your doing them proud. Keep up with the needle jabbing and get in the top 5!…br793

Hi,
I am a Lieutenant in the army and currently deployed to Iraq. I just wanted to say that I think you are really riding awesome this year and I am really happy for you. We get to watch the races on AFN “the armed forces network”, they are like a month after the fact but it is great to be able to watch the nationals over here. I know that you must be over the moon to be on that factory Yamaha. Watching you out there giving it your all, even through adversity really inspires me. Guys like you are great role models that hardwork, perseverance and determination pay great dividends. Best of luck with the rest of the season.

Hey, i just want to say im glad to see you back in the states and racing here again. Your one of the last Barona Oaks riders of my generation of racers to still be riding pro. My whole family roots for you too since they all remember you kickin my ass on a 60cc. Keep up the good work, and I hope to see you on the podium this year, i know you can do it.

Hey there Sean: I`m the guy you used to sit across from my desk in the Blackfoot showroom and we would talk about how bad you wanted an AMA top 10. And how sick you were of being on filter cleaning duty for the team. Last race of the year in Walton you ended up on a Kawi. I remember you sent me that jersey after the race. I know we have not crossed paths in a long while. But, I`m always pullin` for you Sean. You are a class act, we`ll still have to get a fishin` trip in someday. Congrats on the Yamaha ride you deserve it, you will be a great front man for them. A good match. All the best. Greg Symbaluk Riverside Yamaha-Suzuki.
